African Tribal Art

The African art offered herein comes from the collection of the late Dr. Jan Olof Ollers (Stockholm 1917-Toronto 2001), a prominent and early collector. Dr. Ollers was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and by the late 1930s was travelling the world collecting African art. His main collection was sold in London by Sotheby’s in 1973 and shortly thereafter he emigrated to Canada. The balance of his collection was sold in Toronto after his death in 2001, when the items offered in this collection were acquired. Among the items included in the collection are numerous masks and figures, power figures, a basket, antlers, a drum, a stool, and a reliquary figure with representation from the Congo, Yaka, Yoruba, Chokwe, Bamana, Suku, and Dogon people.
