Landscape and Marine painter J.D. Henderson worked from his studio in Burnside, Rutherglen, producing bold and vigorous landscapes using broad brushstrokes and a vibrant sense of colour. He spent some time in Italy and made many studies of light on the Italian landscape, often around the village of San Gimignano. His love of colour and his confident handling of the brush lend a continental warmth to his Scottish landscape painting. His marine work is bright and breezy, preferring brisk sunshine to more stormy seas. He exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute.
