Charles Henry White (Canadian/American 1878-1918)

Charles Henry White was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1878. Best known for his urban etchings of New York City. White was influenced by Joseph Pennell and was a contemporary of American etcher Charles F. W. Mielatz. He studied at the Art Students League in New York and privately with Jean-Leon Gerome in Paris. Later in his career he worked as an illustrator for Harpers Monthly.

He traveled and worked extensively in Europe and his etchings depicting daily life in France and Italy are among his finest.
